Jack at 2 Months

January 2, 2013

Wow so I took a little longer break than intended.  While I had hoped to post monthly updates of Jack…it seems he’s already into his 3rd month of life and I have yet to post anything!  Honestly the last 2 months have been a bit of a blur.  You add a baby to your life and shit gets real.  It has been quite the learning process and just when you think you get things figured out…they change and you go back to the drawing board.

Jack on Halloween (9 days old)

I wouldn’t say Jack is a difficult baby…but the nasty word “colic” has been thrown around more than once by our pediatrician.  When you’re exhausted both emotionally and physically after a 4 hour non-stop crying session…it’s easy to blame colic and hope and pray that at the magic 12 week mark things will get better.  We’ve had a lot of difficult evenings.  Evenings that have taught me a lot about myself and Lance…and us as a couple.

But the good thing is those difficult evenings are almost always followed by happy mornings.  Mornings filled with smiles and coos…and that makes everything better.  Jack loves the mornings…just like his dad.  He also loves to eat and has become quite the little chunk.  Sleeping on the other hand…no so much.

I find myself doing things I never thought I would…like co-sleeping.  I’ve been a stickler about keeping Jack in his crib…but some nights it seems the only road to sanity (and sleep) is if he’s wrapped up in my arms.  Thankfully I am small enough to snuggle up in the rocking chair with him…we’ve spent several hours sleeping there too.  You do what works and what keeps you both happy…I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve learned so far.  Let go of what others might think and just DO what is best for you and your baby.

There are a lot of secrets that come out when you join the “Mom club”…you’ll find you aren’t alone with a lot of your feelings towards motherhood…and that seems to make things just a tad bit easier.  Oh and a glass of wine, that helps too.

Thankful

November 22, 2012

Today I am thankful for so many things…a wonderful husband, a roof over our heads, food on our table…and this little man.

20121122-005725.jpg

Also my iPhone…which allows me to post in the middle of the night one handed.

Since this was not our first trip to San Francisco (my 3rd actually)…Lance & I really didn’t plan on doing too much during our one day there.  We’ve done the majority of “touristy” things so basically our to-do list included going to a Giants game and seeing the bridge.

The first thing on the list was of course to make the 20min trek to pick up a lens I had rented via BorrowLenses.com.  Now I plan to revisit this whole experience later…but basically I concluded 2 things after renting an insanely expensive lens that I will never in my life be able to afford.

1)  I am a super shy person when it comes to using my camera in public…so much so I was embarrassed to get it out at a lot of the places we went to….thus equaling me barely taking any photos.  Not sure why/how I developed this…but I’m determined to get over it.

2)  I’m really not a fan of taking landscape pics…nope not at all.  Actually all it does is piss me off.  I’d much rather take pictures of people/things/cats/corn.

OK so after that bit of honesty…let’s get on with the goods.

Before heading to the game we stopped for a couple beers at 21st Amendment brewery.  We had been here on a previous trip and loved it…so we went again.  What can I say…we know what we like…and more often than not that includes beer.  This was actually the first of 3 breweries we would visit on this trip…and yes I failed to take pics at all 3.  The Hell or High Watermelon Wheat was quite good.

So then we made our way to AT&T park…

where we got to watch Big Time Timmy Jim pitch…and wish that we had brought winter coats and gloves along.

Seriously…San Fran is NOT warm.  Sure the 63 deg temp is a bit cool for mid-July…but the -20 wind chill off the water is what gets you.  Holy cold.

So after about 5 innings we decided we were frozen enough and headed back to the 21st Amendment for some food…and of course another beer.

The following morning we picked up our rental car and headed North.  Of course we had to stop at the bridge first.

It was still pretty foggy out so not the greatest views….duh it IS San Fran after all.

That’s me…in case you couldn’t tell.

After walking out a ways on the bridge and almost being hit by several bikers…we decided we better just get back in the car and drive across the darn thing.

Napa and the sun were waiting for us after all.

The End

I like cheese.

July 21, 2011

Well we made it back from Napa…like a week ago.  And in case you’re wondering…yes I did drink way too much wine…and yes I did stuff my face with 20lbs of cheese and salami.

It happens.

Uploading the pics from my camera I realize that I once again suck at life.  I come home thinking I’ll have thousands of wonderful pics to relive such an amazing trip…oh nope…just 4.  Awesome.

Add that to the fact that our internet is from circa 1967…poking my eyes out with spoons sounds more appealing than attempting to upload them here.   Besides I have more important things to do like read tween books and go see tween movies.

Maybe at some point during this 4-day weekend (thank you mormons) I’ll get around to recapping our little trip.

This is the only pic I have available b/c I spent 16hrs uploading it to facebook…you’re welcome.

Curtains Yo

May 31, 2011

awwwww…you guys are all so nice!  Thanks for the lovely comments on my little rug-painting adventure.  Putting the dinning room space together has been quite the challenge to say the least..and I’d say it’s only about half-way there.  The fabric for the curtains is on it’s way…and i ordered some fun prints off Etsy so hopefully in a couple weeks I’ll have another update pic for ya!

But for now these polka-dot-tastic green curtains will have to hold you over.

If you remember…I painted our kitchen backsplash bright green back in February and was in search of something for all the white along this back wall.  I straight-up copied Jessi after seeing her awesome-sauce curtains…and made some for myself!

Before:

and AFTER!

I tried to include a little bit of the green wall so you could see how it fits together.

PS…Nori loves to make cameo appearances in my posts if you can’t tell.  These pics were taken shortly after her 15hr cat adventure in the outdoors…it was not  a good day to say the least.  However it was apparently the greatest day ever for her b/c all she does now is stare outside like she can’t wait to get back to the cat-haven she discovered.  Cats.

I’m not gonna lie…I really enjoyed making these curtains…so much so that I’m going to make some more for the living room…and the office.  That hem tape stuff is magical i tell you!!  If you want something hemmed…call me…I’m addicted.  If you want curtain rods installed…do not call me…i hate them.

Going Green

April 1, 2011

This is in fact NOT an April fool’s joke…this is actually yours truly posting some pics!  gasp!

Let’s see…what’s first…oh yes…the camera strap I made!

pretty sweet huh?  and yes I am too lazy to actually get out a diff camera to get a full view…I think you get the point…the fabric is pretty bad ass.

And then we have our kitchen…let me start with the before circa July 2010…about 3wks after we moved in.

and then about 2 months ago…Super Bowl Sunday to be exact..I decided it was time to go green…

Looking at these now I’m not sure why we waited so long!  The color makes such a huge difference..esp with the white counter tops.

So here’s my dilemma…if you look the opposite way we have these french doors….which we LOVE..that open onto our deck.  However…we are in desperate need of something to break up all the white…but we don’t think painting the wall green is the answer.

A friend suggested some fun curtains to hang on either side of the french doors.  I love me some curtains so I am all about this idea.  Then literally days later..Jessi posted her sweet no-sew curtains and I about pooped my pants!  I’m thinking of straight up copying her…no shame here.  Esp since the material just happens to be on sale right now!

What do you all think?  Should I attempt to make curtains out of this material?  Is it too much green?  I sorta fell in love with the zig-zag pattern also…but sadly it is not in stock…plus the zig-zag would be sideways and not the chevron design that I am slightly obsessed with.  Oh lord…if I could decorate my entire house in grey/white chevron I would in a heartbeat.

True Story:  I washed a load of clothes…99% of it was grey shirts…I think I need an intervention.  Not to mention our living room is about to go grey…two-tone.  (pssst…our bedroom walls are already are grey!)

I have lots of before/after pics…we’re getting more hardwood put in next week so get ready!!!!!!!!

he-hem.  Sorry for my “little” blogging sabbatical.

If anyone is actually still out there tuning in to yours truly….  (I don’t blame you if you unsubscribed)

Here’s the thing…I’ve gotten reaaalllllyyyy lazy with internet-ing…and  I’ve got pictures on my camera that date back from Nov and have yet to be uploaded to my dear ol’ macbook.

BUT…for the sake of those out there that might actually stop by here once in a dark moon…I’m determined to blog something.

Here’s a few things that might make for exciting posts:

1) Our Bright-ass green kitchen paint

2) My undying love for curtains…and how I suck at hanging them.

3) Our sweet bar…and the keg drama that goes along with it.

4) Why having two giant TVs is necessary…esp when one has 3-D.

5) NEW FLOORING!!!!  …and how I’ve turned into “that lady” that makes you take your shoes off…and heaven forbid you actually try to eat/drink around my new carpet.

6) New Adventures in sewing…and how I pretty much rock at it.

Oh and if you’re wondering what ever happend to my wedding recaps?  That thing I did months ago?  Yeah well you can still check them out over on EAD!

GO HERE to get your wedding fix.

Now if one of those thrilling topics above really has you on the edge of your seat…fill free to tell me which one you’d like to hear about first.  I work better under pressure.

Christmas Gifts

November 19, 2010

…for our cats.

I once planted some cat grass for Nori in a small pot.  It took about 4 wks to grow…once I set it down for her to munch on…it was gone w/in seconds.  Needless to say I’m not sure it was worth it…although Nori may beg to differ.

Viva Las Vegas!

April 15, 2010

Well if you’re reading this…chances are I’m either already in Sin City or in route to!!

source

I am so excited to hang out with 8 of my favorite ladies…I have a feeling it could get a little crazy!!  I know they have been emailing and planning back and forth the perfect Bachelorette night for Friday… and the only thing I know is that we’re eating at Lavo!  I usually like to be in total control of plans and know exactly what is going on every hour of a trip…but in this case…I think I’ll be ok ;)

I wanted to do a little something to thank all the girls for making the trip out to Las Vegas, and for helping create what I’m sure will be one unforgettable weekend of fun!  So I put together some “Vegas Survival Kits”!

Somehow the timing of winning a Navy and Lavender gift certificate was perfect…and I snagged up these cute little bags.

I then found some fun things to stuff inside!

  • gum
  • sunscreen
  • kleenex
  • anit-bacterial stuff
  • nail file & hair ties
  • snacks
  • chapstick
  • shout wipes
  • bandaids
  • energy on the go mix

I wanted to add some single packets of Tylenol but didn’t have time to order them online and get them before the trip.  I am definitely planning on doing something similar for my BMs with more “wedding day” stuff…so will be sure to order in time for those!

I also picked up these cute wine tools for each of the ladies!

source

I sure hope they all like the little kits I put together!!  I had fun picking out stuff and the bags are really great quality so they can definitely use them for future travels!

OK well stay tuned for a re-cap of the bachelorette craziness once I get back!
