366: 1-7

January 8, 2012

Apparently I only wrote 15 posts in 2011…it’s called life my friends…and I was enjoying it.

So to start anew in 2012 I’ve decided to tackle a little photo project.  One photo each day for 366 days (leap year bonus!).  I’ve been wanting to take this on since I started following Terese’s 365 posts …here’s hoping I stick to it.  I don’t have a fancy smart phone (I know…shocking) so the basic goal of this project is to force myself to use my big girl camera…and hopefully learn more about it in the process.

So here we go…Days 1-7

Jan 1 - Bedside reads...The Midwife’s Confession* and Your Camera Loves You

Jan 2 – Sewing – ruffle apron #2

Jan 3 – Putting away Christmas

Jan 4 – I realize everyone and their dog has been playing Words With Friends for a while now…thanks to my new Kindle I can now join the fun

Jan 5 – My 5am BFFs

Jan 6 – It was late…Mini was tired

Jan 7 – After a very dry December…finally some snow.

*Finished this book and really liked it…in case anyone was wondering.

The Other Half

October 26, 2009

OK so finally here are some pics from the race…overall it was really fun.  The first 7 miles went by quick with gorgeous views…then the hills started.  I believe we gained 200ft in a little over a mile and a half…yeah.  But we survived…and took some photos along the way!!  So I guess I will just let the pics do the rest of the talking…

So there ya have it…the Moab Other Half.  Pretty neat race!  I have no idea what our next race will be…maybe the SLC 1/2 in April??

run this town tonight…

October 18, 2009

Welp we did it….we ran 13.1 along the Colorado River…it was beautiful!!  …and hilly…oh the hills…they kinda sucked but in the end we finished…and we drank some Moab brews.  All in all a great 13.1.  I’m a little sore now…tired…so I’ll leave you with a pic from the phone post race!

me1_2

…yes I AM drinking 2 beers…don’t judge.

I’ll be sure to post more pics when we get back from Moab!

*ps…the title is from that Jay-Z & Rihanna song…I think I listened to it at least 5 times during the race..and thus it is the “song of the race”  :)

Once again I’ve been beat by my ridiculous tendency to procrastinate…not sure why I do it…its not like i get some kind of Joy out of waiting till the last minute to do things… Anyways, Lance and I had been planning on running the Park City 1/2 marathon since like JANUARY…so finally we got around to actually registering this weekend…and it was SOLD OUT!  what? why?  seriously?  you mean I’m not the only one that wants to run in the mountains, uphill, in the late August heat??

I’m pretty disappointed…now I can’t justify all the burgers and beer that come with summer time by running 20+ miles a week. dangit.

Lance says he still wants to “train” for it…just to take advantage of the “get-in-shape” part of training which I’m totally fine with but its just not as easy when you don’t have that final goal ahead.  Well we do have our engagement pics over labor Day weekend…(oh did I forget to mention I scheduled that??…b/c I did!) so that is at least something to motivate us I guess!

Anyways…Happy Running!

A 5k and an FO

May 11, 2009

I tend to promise pictures…and then never post them.  WELL…I have some for ya!  Yippy!

I’ll start with a pic of L and I after running the SLC 5k…we actually ran with each other this time!  Lance would normally go his own pace in races (meaning ahead of me)…but this time he decided to slow down and run with me…nice huh.  Well it ended up being a quick and fun race…the last mile or so was all downhill…hells yeah!  If it wasn’t for the 3,000 people running it we pry could have pulled off better times…instead we weaved in and out of other runners/walkers/and bikers for 3.1 miles.

DSCN1464

…and now we have an FO (finished object for you non-knitters)!!  Finally something knitting related on here!  I have made a couple of these cozies before…they knit up quick and no seaming!!  gotta love that.  I made this one for my friend A who’s 28th Bday was this past weekend…she said one of her favorite colors is pink…so I made it pink!

IMG_0838

(I’m a little embarassed by the Coors Light…all the good beer was already packed in the cooler for the BBQ)

IMG_0843

Pretty nice huh?  I used the pattern from Michael del Vecchio’s book “Knitting With Balls“…you can find the pattern info here on Ravelry ….BTW if you knit and you haven’t heard of Ravelry yet…um where have you been??  Its awesome…get on there!

Well thats about it…but I’ll include one more photo…because I think it turned out really good and it includes 2 GM in our wedding!!

IMG_0845

Thats L on the left, friend J in the middle, and friend B on the right…all three of these guys grew up in the same small town in North Dakota…and now we all live within 3 blocks of each other…in SLC…not kidding.

Friday Hodgepodge

May 8, 2009

Run:

Well on Tuesday I commited to this:

moabhalf

OH_course-map

I mentioned this race in a post way-back-when as a possible suspect…and indeed Lance and I are doing it…and one of my friends C is too!!  The scenery will be absolutely gorgeous…remember this pic

OH_hula

I’m going to try and be like the hula girls loving life while they run…but chances are I will likely be the girl way to the left in the blue…who just looks annoyed that the hula girls are having so much fun…running 13.1 miles.  Either way I’m looking forward to it…and glad I’ll actually have some running partners this time!

Its not until October but I wanted to register right away because of this:

glass

thats right…a pint glass.. for FREE YO!  I collect pint glasses…its my one thing I always buy on trips..usually from a local brewery….so when I saw this it was a no brainer!

(all above pics from here)

Knit:

I finished my slippers and felted them…and they FINALLY dried enough that I can wear them!!  YIPPY!  These slippers are by far my favorite ever …that is until I wear them out and they get holes.  I’ll try and snap some pics and get them posted….along with another secret Bday gift I’m knitting for a friend who’s Bday is tomorrow!!  Which means I need to get a move on and finish!!

Get Hitched:

As if I don’t post enough about weddings…  I’ll just show some pretty pictures from a recent wedding…by who else but Khara our photographer!!

Have a fabulous weekend!!

(Happy Mother’s Day Mom!)

I’m BAAAAACCCCCKKKKK….or at least I’m going to try really really hard to be…  :)

so on with the Hodgepodge shall we…

Run:

Well right now I’m trying to figure out my next race (1/2 marathon) to train for… I may have mentioned that I was thinking of doing the SLC 1/2…which is in April…which means I would have to start training on um…MONDAY!  Yeah…I’m not sure if I’m ready for that…well actually I WOULD be ready if the valley wasn’t a haze of disgusting pollution right now…pry not so good for the lungs.  So I’m still debating…we joined the 24hr fitness out here so I’ve been getting some runs in..on the dreadmill…ugh.

The other race I’m looking at is one that Lance really wants to do.  Its in Moab which is just BEAUTIFUL and would be super amazing I think…but its not till october which means no training till the end of summer.

see...they're having fun!

see...they're having fun!

So yeah…still debating…I think I”ll be getting the itch to train once the weather is nice..so maybe I’ll just train for some 10ks or something…

Knit:

Not too much on the knitting front.  I was excited to finally unpack all my yarn and books…I love rediscovering my “stash” and looking through my pattern books.  I haven’t started anything new yet.  However…now that I’m back in Salt Lake I see my knitting friend C every day at work..and so thats definitely getting me in the mood to do some knitting…AND…we’ve already talked about getting together at least a couple times a month to knit..maybe more!  I also want to plan a knit night soon…so stay tuned to see what goes on the needles next!

Get Hitched:

Like I mentioned in the last post..it is time for me to GET GOING with this planning stuff.  I “think” we have a pretty good date in mind..or at least a time frame.  We discussed it with L’s family over the holiday and although his mom didn’t seem to understand why we wanted to wait till spring 2010…I think she finally accepted it.

So the big thing I’m concerned with right now is figuring out a venue.  My hometown is small…there isn’t exactly a lot of options for receptions.  Omaha is close by…but if we get married in my home church everyone would have drive there for the reception…and then where does everyone stay…Omaha?  Or do I just have everything in Omaha…skip the church all together?  Well and then there’s Lincoln options if we’re going that route… I’ve done some looking online at different venues and really nothing has jumped out at me as “OMG…THIS IS IT!!!”  We don’t want the hotel-ballroom reception…and outside could be a problem in spring with Nebraska weather.  I hate all the restrictions on most places …like you MUST use this caterer… NO candles…OVER by 11pm…  I want to have the most freedom possible…which I’m not sure IS possible… unless I happen to discover a long lost relative that lives in a house with a ginormous backyard with a cornfield.

So yeah…this is the one thing I want to get booked/figured out soon.  I feel like I really can’t do anything else till we get this part done.  I need to plan a trip back to Nebraska so I can actually go and SEE some places …not just online photos…and talk with venders in person not just over email or phone.

Does anyone out there have any suggestions??  Did anyone else have a hard time picking a venue??  Anyone know of an amazing Omaha area venue??

well I can’t end this hodgepodge post without some pretty pictures…

I saw this board over on With This Ring…and am SERIOUSLY thinking of adding gray in the color mix…perhaps using less purple…

gray-and-greenwiththisringfrom With this Ring…

I sorta love the idea of gray bridesmaid dresses…you could totally wear those again right?!

oh and that couple in the top middle…yeah its the same bride with the amazing green shoes that I posted here

some more pics from that wedding for your viewing pleasure…via Amy Squires blog

I’m really liking the gray suit!

grngreyamysquires2

Don’t ya just love those green and gray ribbons?!

OK thats all for now!

Friday Hodgepodge

December 5, 2008

So I skipped last Friday’s Hodgepodge post…because I was watching my Huskers beat Colorado…thats right…GO BIG RED!

ANYWAYS…back at it…

Run:

Lets just skip this category shall we…

I ran yesterday…it was ok.  I don’t have any races in the immediate future…although I’m thinking the SLC  1/2 next April would be fun since I’ll be living there and all.  But thats still a ways away…so till then I’ll just keep running my little runs that make me feel less like a fat slob.

Knit:

As soon as I say I’m giving up on all Xmas knitting…what did I do??  Well I casted on for a project!  Its a small one.  I have had this skein of Noro that has just been staring at me for the past year…begging to be knitted.  So when I was packing up all my knitting stuff for the big move (sad, I know) I kept that one skein out.  I decided to make a pair of fingerless mitts for my friend Sara…since I’ll be seeing her in San Fran in a couple weeks!  I really think she’ll like them…the colorway is awesome!  I hope to get pics of them up soon…maybe this weekend (with my new CAMERA!!  woot-woot!)??

here’s a pic of the yarn I’m using…

norosource

nice huh?  You can find the pattern here.

Get Hitched!:

Now for the fun stuff!

Well we haven’t made much progress on the wedding front…it has officially been pushed to the side as we plan the move.  Of course we have lightly discussed dates…I think the goal over Christmas is to get one solidified.  We’ll be at Lance’s parents house so we can discuss it with them (along with budget stuff…EEEEK!).  For some reason I’m liking May 1st, 2010.  Not sure why…it just seems easy to remember…oh and its 05/01/2010…very simple.  Of course…my little sister is graduating from high school that May…so it could be too much…to have family come for that AND a wedding??  ugh…I’m already getting stressed.  Oh and when I mentioned this to Lance, this is what he replied with…”hmmm…is Nebraska green yet that early in May?”  what??  you mean HE thinks about that?

So yeah…not too much on the planning front yet.  I did print off some budget stuff…line item things…just to get an idea of ALL THE CRAP that is involved…and let me tell you…if there is ever a buzz kill in wedding planning its staring at the budget sheet.  I mean seriously…the amount “alloted” for our wedding rings…DE-PRESSING!  We don’t have a budget set in stone or anything…but I’ve crunched the numbers…I know what is reasonable for us to afford (seeing how we will be paying the majority for sure).  Not to worry…I have ideas on how and where to cut some costs.  Of course there are some areas where I will definitely splurge…I just have to get Lance on the bandwagon with me!

ok lets see…now for some inspiring photos…

I’m loving the idea of Purple and Green for wedding colors…Lance loves the combo too..  I don’t want that light lilac purple…I’m talking dark ass purple, deep violet, plum maybe.  And a lovely bright green…think grass.

purple_grnwed

source

I saw this on Style Me Pretty during their “little black dress” thing they did…and I sorta love it!  The lime green is maybe too bright…but I love those purple tablecloths!

I also like this

purplewedsource

purpleflowerssource

It seems like damask weddings  are EVERYWHERE these days…I like the idea of throwing the splash of purple with the black and white.  I think I’d want more color though…throw in some green and we’re set!

I also saw this picture …

purpledress_jonathancanlas1source

I like this color of purple for BM dresses…of course lance was like…”I don’t like the striped ties”  ok…no one said this was EXACTLY what we have to do…weirdo.

Anyways…I think purple…if done right…can look amazing.  What do YOU think?…be nice!

Friday Hodgepodge

November 21, 2008

…I kinda liked my Friday Hodgepodge last week….so I think I’ll try and make this a weekly thing. I will “try” to include something for each of my blog categories (run, knit, get hitched!)..hopefully it won’t be totally lame!

Run:

OK well I AM still running…no not as much as I was during my training. I took about a week off from all work-out related activities and started up again this week. So far I ran last Sunday and yesterday…i know..not the best…but it has been ass cold here! …and I’m doing Bodypump at Golds…so at least I’m doing something right…which BTW..love bodypump…best class ever!

Back to running…well like I said…it has been pretty cold here lately, which is only about 40s but still… In the past when it was cold I would only run inside…in fact…I rarely ran outside until I started training for the 1/2..I would either run on a track or a treadmill. Well I hate the treadmill…hate it! I understand that in some instances its really the only option (like pouring rain/blizzard/30 below). Until then however…I want to run outside…except I have like zero cold running gear.

I am thinking about getting one of these:

nikerunninghat

It has a hole for a ponytail which is perfect! Found here for $9.99!

and I will probably need some of these too:

greygloves

source

Orrrrr…mom…if you’re reading this….there’s a gift set! Perfect for that runner on your list this Christmas!

giftpacksource

I’m not sure if this hat has the ponytail hole thingy…which is what I want (hint hint…mother)…but you get the idea.

Knit:

Well I think we all know how I feel about knitting right now.

HOWEVER…yesterday I stumbled upon something….

office_viastylefiles

I think I first saw this picture here...who got it from style files.

At the time I just thought…wow…I bet I could knit something like that (I usually do this with any knitted item I see…) of course its massive and how would you actually make that????

WELL…yesterday I stumbled upon the answer…

hugeneedles

carpetknit

images from here

Seriously???…where do you get needles that size?!?! um yeah…I’ll take one set please! Wow…now that takes some serious dedication…

Get Hitched:

I have been seeing tons of inspirational images and ideas via the wedding blog world…but nothing is really “hitting” me lately. I think it’s because we have NO date, NO venue, pretty much nothing set except that we are actually going to do it…eventually! I did however see something that I liked…

ampersandsource

…the ampersand. you know… this thing ( & ) … I think it would be cool to have L&S on stuff…maybe some type of monogram? or covered in flowers hanging from something …like this

slinitialspic by Jennifer Brum

I saw this on An Excited Bride forever ago and thought it was super cute…seeing how it is OUR initials too! I think it would be cool to add the ‘&’ in between. Any thoughts???

Ok well that wraps up today’s edition of Friday Hodgepodge! come back next week for more exciting stuff!

Happy Friday!
